Prepare to Push Physiotherapy

Prepare to Push Physiotherapy in Toronto

Prepare to Push is kāer’s birth-preparation pelvic floor physiotherapy program for Toronto families. We help you learn to push effectively, reduce your risk of tearing, and walk into labour confident in your body’s capability.

What is Prepare to Push?

Prepare to Push is a focused birth-prep session (typically in the third trimester) that combines pelvic floor assessment, perineal massage technique training, optimal birthing positions, push mechanics, and breath coordination for labour. It’s part education, part hands-on coaching, designed to help you feel prepared for the physical demands of birth.

When to book your Prepare to Push session

Most patients book between 34 and 38 weeks of pregnancy — after the third trimester is well underway but before active labour preparation. Some patients book earlier and return for a refresher closer to their due date. We tailor timing to your individual pregnancy and preferences.

What we cover in your session

Each session includes: pelvic floor assessment, perineal massage technique demonstration and self-practice, optimal positions for labour and birth, push mechanics (open glottis vs. closed glottis), breath strategies for each stage of labour, postural cues, partner support strategies, and recovery planning. You’ll leave with practical tools you can use during labour and a clear postpartum recovery plan.

Can my partner attend?

Yes. We strongly encourage your birth partner or doula to attend so they can support you with positions, breath cues, and counter-pressure techniques during labour. Many of our Toronto families bring their partner for the Prepare to Push session.
